Grinder (Vee ways)

The reconditioning of a typical sliding way grinder (not one that uses rollers or balls) measuring and scraping vee ways which are in this authors experience by far the most difficult machine scraping challenge. The difficulty comes down to the number of variables and the inherent lack of gibs. Both the vee's angle and the straightness of either side contribute to the resulting position of the matting part. It is also far more awkward to scrape a 45 degree internal vee than a flat, external vee or to some degree a dovetail.

If you read the chapter in Connelly (which is not a bad idea) you will see mention of the necessity of making certain tools. The irony of course being that as well set up surface grinder would make producing said tools a trivial task while scraping them, even with a power scraper is an involved. process.
